War Pigs actually isn’t as terrible of movie as some make it out to be… but the acting is subpar and the story itself is limited but clocking in at just over 80-minutes it at least makes for a quick watch that ultimately isn’t satisfying yet I can’t say I’m overly disappointed considering this is a DTV flick.

PLOT SYNOPSIS

Disgraced WWII Army Captain Jack Womick (LUKE GOSS) is given the opportunity for redemption. He is asked to lead a ragtag unit of misfits, known as the War Pigs, on a secret mission. They must go behind enemy lines to uncover and capture a Nazi-developed super weapon, the V3, a massive artillery cannon that would give the Nazis an insurmountable advantage against the Allies. With the help of Captain Hana Picault (DOLPH LUNDGREN), a German anti-Nazi serving with the French Legion, and Colonel A.J. Redding (MICKEY ROURKE), a battle-hardened WWI veteran, Jack must train, lead and earn the respect of his new squad to become a functioning reconnaissance unit.

SPECIAL FEATURES – 0/5

This release comes with a simple slip cover and inside is a standard DVD Copy, no other features were included.

VIDEO – 3.75/5

War Pigs is presented with a 1080p high-definition and a 1.78 widescreen aspect ratio. It’s not altogether bad looking with decent enough detail and colors generally are nice albeit drab in keeping with the war setting meaning tones are geared more towards warmer elements. There were no apparent instances of aliasing or artifacts.

AUDIO – 3.5/5

The movie comes with a nice if not standard DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track which offers up clear enough dialogue levels yet when we do get into the war battle sequences, this lossless track doesn’t quite hold up. Although each track is used but it’s not overly dynamic or impressive however it does get the job done well enough.

OVERALL – 2.0/5

Overall, War Pigs actually isn’t as terrible of movie as some make it out to be… but the acting is subpar and the story itself is limited but clocking in at just over 80-minutes it at least makes for a quick watch that ultimately isn’t satisfying yet I can’t say I’m overly disappointed considering this is a DTV flick. The Blu-ray released by Cinedigm is thin with no bonus features while the video and audio are passable.
