Review: Tom Holland’s Twisted Tales DVD

Twisted Tales is an interesting concept taking more than a little cue from “Tales from the Crypt” and getting together some decent talent by Tom Holland who wrote and directed each of the nine vignettes. However, more than a few of those aren’t very good or well acted yet there’s a couple that are at least watchable including the one starring William Forsythe and Danielle Harris.

THE MOVIE

Plot Outline: Horror director Tom Holland (Child’s Play) dares you to join him for nine totally Twisted Tales: A new drug offers users a glimpse at the future… with beastly consequences; a murderous husband is stalked by his own cell phone; a jilted over wreaks satanic vengeance, the nightmarish action then leads to worlds haunted by dark magic, demonic possession, vampires, witches and more.

This release comes with a matted, title embossed, slip cover.

There are making-of featurettes for five of the vignettes: Boom (12:06), Mongo’s Magick Mirror (9:12), Shockwave (12:57), Cached (6:56) and The Pizza Guy (15:36). Each one has Tom Holland discussing the story and delving into how it was filmed and such.

VIDEO – 3.0/5 | AUDIO – 3.25/5

Twisted Tales is presented with a 16×9 enhanced 1.78 widescreen aspect ratio and like most low budget movies, this one doesn’t look great where black levels are grayer and it has a soft texture throughout.

The Dolby Digital 5.1 track is serviceable although nothing extraordinary where dialogue sound clear enough while outside elements don’t have much of an impact.
