“The Good Wife” is one of the mostly unknown gems of network television featuring incredible performances, in particular from Julianna Margulies, Chris Noth, Josh Charles and Archie Panjabi. As a new viewer going into this fourth season, I actually was surprised at how enthralling the show was as it got me hooked from the first episode and I recommend checking it out as it is an entertaining legal drama.

THE SEASON
In this fourth season of CBS’ steamy legal drama, “The Good Wife”, Alicia Florrick (JULIANNA MARGULIES) brings her sharp mind and signature grace to challenges both in and out of the courtroom. This season, she falls in sync with estranged husband Peter (CHRIS NOTH) even as she and Will (JOSH CHARLES) continue to flirt with temptation. And her career is finally flourishing as she’s offered partnership status and gains more power at the office. Diane (CHRISTINE BARANSKI), Cary (MATT CZUCHRY), and Kalinda (ARCHIE PANJABI) each face their own predicaments as the firm pulls out from under its debt, Cary struggles to carve his own niche, and Kalinda tangles with a volatile, mysterious ex-boyfriend.
Peter’s gubernatorial campaign hits its stride, as Eli (ALAN CUMMING) falls under federal investigation and battles new threats to his candidate’s political future. The fallout reaches Alicia as well, as she braves a new barrage of personal and professional adversaries, challenging her roles as a mother, lawyer, and woman.

Each episode includes a standard Dolby Digital 5.1 track (and stereo as well) which allows dialogue levels to sound clear while the other channels are reserved for the soft score and occasional ambient noises.
OVERALL – 4.0/5
Overall, “The Good Wife” is one of the mostly unknown gems of network television featuring incredible performances, in particular from Julianna Margulies, Chris Noth, Josh Charles and Archie Panjabi. As a new viewer going into this fourth season, I actually was surprised at how enthralling the show was as it got me hooked from the first episode and I recommend checking it out (even through Hulu or Netflix) as it is an entertaining legal drama. The DVD released by Paramount has good audio/video transfers and the features, while limited in numbers, are interesting to watch if only once.
