Fear No Evil is not a great movie and certainly rather cheesy especially when it came to the make-up effects but there is a certain amount of fun to be had even if, personally, these supernatural-horror films aren’t my thing.

PLOT SYNOPSIS

God has appointed three archangels to fight against Lucifer, who has assumed human features. Archangel Raphael (JOHN HOLLAND), in the guise of Father Damon, kills Lucifer and ends his life in jail. But his sister, Archangel Mikhail (ELIZABETH HOFFMAN), knows that one day the Devil will reappear. Eighteen years later, Lucifer returns, now in the form of Andrew (STEFAN ARNGRIM), a brilliant but shy schoolboy who becomes conscious of his devilish nature on his birthday. Archangel Mikhail, allies with Gabrielle (KATHLEEN ROWE MCALLEN) to defeat Lucifer.

SPECIAL FEATURES – 2.5/5

Audio Commentary — Actor Stefan Arngrim sits down for this new track recounting his work on the movie 38 years later.

Interviews:

  • Actor Stefan Arngrim (37:12)
  • Special Effects Artist John Eggett (28:23)

Both of these lengthy interviews finds the two discussing their careers, how they came to work on the project and recounting stories from that time frame. Nothing mind-blowing but for an obscure fantasy-horror film, probably sprung out of the success of The Exorcist, nice to get anything.

Also included is the Theatrical Trailer (0:39), some TV Spots (3:25) and an Image Gallery (3:37).

VIDEO – 4.0/5

Shout Factory releases Fear No Evil shown in its original 1.85 widescreen aspect ratio and given a new 1080p high-definition transfer taken from a 4K scan from the original film elements. The picture looks quite good, detail is pretty decent especially for close-ups while the more distant shots does lose some features. The natural film grain and noise has been retained and colors are vibrant and bright.

AUDIO – 4.25/5

The disc comes with a basic but still efficient DTS-HD Master Audio Mono track and as these go, it’s not bad. Dialogue comes through with good clarity and there is a minor amount of depth when it comes to the demonic presence that shows up and there was no discernible hissing or pops.

OVERALL – 3.0/5

Overall, Fear No Evil is not a great movie and certainly rather cheesy especially when it came to the make-up effects but there is a certain amount of fun to be had even if, personally, these supernatural-horror films aren’t my thing.
