The Seduction is an okay erotic thriller however not terribly memorable despite this being Morgan Fairchild’s feature film debut but kind of expected more of a cheese-fest.

THE MOVIE — 3.0/5 |
Plot Synopsis: L.A. anchorwoman Jamie Douglas (MORGAN FAIRCHILD) has it all: a glamorous career on a top-rated news show, a luxurious house in the hills, and a devoted admirer named Derek (ANDREW STEVENS). But when Jamie rebuffs his romantic advances, Derek becomes an obsessed stalker who plays out an increasingly psychotic courtship with the frightened newswoman. Soon he is threatening every part of her life, secretly watching even her most intimate moments. Her tough-talking lover (MICHAEL SARRAZIN) can’t console her. A by-the-book cop (VINCE EDWARDS) can’t protect her. But Jamie is far from helpless… and ready to fight back with all the weapons at her command. Quick Hit Review: The erotic thriller was strong in the 1980s through the 90s but of recent history has fallen out of favor with the rise of a free and abundant amount of porn available for all on the Internet. Personally, I find movies like The Seduction to be a lot of fun even in the good bad sort of way and this one pretty much fits the bill. Morgan Fairchild made her feature film debut following a stint of appearances on TV shows. Her acting isn’t always the best though in fairness the screenplay by director David Schmoeller wasn’t the best. Andrew Stevens played creepy insane fairly well at least… The Seduction is hardly a good 1980s thriller but passably entertaining for what it is and probably better known for Morgan Fairchild’s tastefully nude scenes (from the very first scene) rather than the plot or characters. |
SPECIAL FEATURES – 3.5/5 |
This is a fairly well stacked catalog title from Shout Factory. Audio Commentary – Writer/Director David Schmoeller & Producers Irwin Yablans and Bruce Cohn Curtis Interviews:
Nice to have a couple of the actors participate in these new interviews and both Fairchild and Stevens, along with producer Curtis, give their history into the industry and provide memories on making The Seducer. Remembering The Seduction (10:47) is an older Q&A roundtable with some members of the crew including Schmoeller, Yablans and cast members Colleen Camp and Kevin Brophy amongst some others. Remembering the Locations and Production (11:11) – Bruce Cohn Curtis and Location Manager Charles Newirth discuss the various filming locations. Nothing great but still informative for any fans of the movie. Remembering The Seduction and the Law (7:52) is an interview with a LAPD Detective about real life stalking cases and the impact on the victims. Rounding things out is the Theatrical Trailer (1:55), a TV Spot (0:31) and a Still Gallery (1:53). |
VIDEO – 4.0/5 |
There’s no mention of any restoration work, but even so, this 1080p, 2.35 widescreen aspect ratio transfer looks rather good. There are some specs that crop up here and there, but otherwise the detail is fairly well defined and given the film’s 30+ year age, it’s more than respectable. |
AUDIO – 3.75/5 |
The included DTS-HD Master Audio Mono track is functional with clear enough dialogue and some okay depth for a singular channel, though there was some minor hissing here and there. So while not perfect, much like the video, it is on the serviceable range. |
OVERALL – 3.5/5 |
The Seduction is an okay erotic thriller however not terribly memorable despite this being Morgan Fairchild’s feature film debut, not to mention having a couple nude scenes, but even so, kind of expected more of a cheese-fest. The Blu-ray release from Shout Factory has good video/audio transfers and a fine selection of bonus features. |
