PLOT SYNOPSIS

Three California beach buddies (JAN-MICHAEL VINCENT, WILLIAM KATT, GARY BUSEY) begin to realise there is more to life than waxing down their surfboards as they ditch their alcoholic and unruly ways to go fight in the Vietnam War.

SPECIAL FEATURES – 2.0/5

This release comes with an Audio Commentary with John Milius, Capturing the Swell (15:28; SD) archive featurette with an interview by Milius and the Trailer (2:59; HD).

VIDEO – 4.25/5, AUDIO – 3.5/5

Big Wednesday is presented in its original 2.40 widescreen aspect ratio and given an impressive looking 1080p transfer, newly minted for this Blu-ray. Colors are fairly vibrant and skin tones appear natural. An all around notable transfer.

The movie comes with a decently strong DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 track which outputs good dialogue levels and some fine depth, most notably during the surfing sequences.

OVERALL – 3.0/5

Overall, Big Wednesday is a well acted drama mixing surfing drama with 1960s culture clash, not a great movie but it is worthy of a rental. The Blu-ray release through Warner’s Archive Collection offers good video and audio transfers and a lackluster selection of features.
