PLOT SYNOPSIS |
This sequel returns to the Chicago barbershop owned by Calvin Palmer Jr. (ICE CUBE). His employees — Isaac (TROY GARITY), Terri (EVE), Ricky (MICHAEL EALY), Dinka (LEONARD EARL HOWZE) and Kenard (KENAN THOMPSON) — have their own personal and workplace problems, and a new barbershop called Nappy Cutz has moved in across the street. As Calvin tries to change the character of his business, Nappy Cutz and gentrification become a threat to the surrounding community. |
SPECIAL FEATURES – 3.0/5 |
This release comes with a matted slip cover. Audio Commentaries:
Cast Video Commentary – Cedric the Entertainer, Sean Patrick Thomas, Troy Garity and Jazsmin Lewis. Same as above but with some video which cuts in and out. Deleted Scenes (8:31) – Several scenes failed to make it into the film for a variety of reasons. Each comes with an introduction by the cast and there’s also optional commentary. Rounding things out there are Outtakes (6:22), 2 Music Videos for “Not Today” by Eve (7:27) and “I Can’t Wait” by Sleepy Brown featuring OutKast (5:10), a Behind the Scenes Photo Gallery and the Theatrical Trailer (1:59). |
VIDEO – 3.5/5 |
Barbershop 2 is presented in its original theatrical 1.85 widescreen aspect ratio and given a standard but okay 1080p high-definition transfer. Colors are pretty good and detail, while not fantastic, is decent enough, though it does look a bit splotchy at times. |
AUDIO – 3.5/5 |
The disc includes your based but adequate DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track along with a stereo track. |
OVERALL – 3.0/5 |
Overall, Barbershop 2: Back in Business is a fine sequel and although, as with the first film, isn’t my cup of tea in terms of comedy (never really found Cedric’s old man routine all that funny) but any fan of Ice Cube or the aforementioned Cedric the Entertainer might find it entertaining. |
