ABOUT THIS RELEASE

California-bound rancher Ben Warren (ROCK HUDSON) is shot and left for dead when a demented ex-Confederate, Frank Slayton (PHIL CAREY), kidnaps his Southern bride-to-be (DONNA REED). Revived, Ben sets out to rescue her. Along the way, he picks up Jess Burgess (LEO GORDON), a slighted former member of Slayton’s gang, and American Indian local Johash (PAT HOGAN), who has his own beef with the outlaws. Together they embark on a perilous chase toward the Mexican border to stop Slayton.

SPECIAL FEATURES – 0.5/5

This comes with an 8-page booklet. The only feature included is the Theatrical Trailer.

VIDEO – 3.0/5, AUDIO – 4.0/5

Gun Fury debuts on Blu-ray through Twilight Time who received the HD master from Columbia Pictures. All things considered, it’s an okay looking picture at times, while other times detail was splotchy and in a few scenes, I noticed a halo effect, just not sure if it was from edge enhancement or the type of effects for the time period.

The audio meanwhile is more than satisfactory. The movie received a DTS-HD Master Audio Mono track which does provide good dialogue levels and during any horseback riding and/or action scenes, there is some fine depth.

OVERALL – 2.25/5

Overall, Gun Fury is a run-of-the-mill western-adventure film made fun with the performances by Rock Hudson and Donna Reed, but not much else was all that memorable. The Blu-ray released by Twilight Time has so-so video, good audio and no-frills features.
