THE SEASON — 3.0/5 |
Synopsis: The terrifying journey of the Winchester Brothers continues as Supernatural enters Season Twelve, Sam (JARED PADALECKI) and Dean (JENSEN ACKLES) have spent their lives on the road, battling every kind of supernatural threat. Over the years, they’ve faced everything from the yellow-eyed demon that killed their mother to vampires, ghosts, shape shifters, angels and fallen gods. Last season, the Winchesters found themselves battle an apocalyptic force: the Darkness. Now, it’s Lucifer in the flesh. With assistance from their resurrected mother, Mary (SAMANTHA SMITH), and Castiel (MISHA COLLINS), the determined brothers are about to face off once again with the most destructive enemy they’ve ever encountered – all while dealing with Crowley (MARK A. SHEPPARD) and the British Men of Letters. Will they win? Quick Hit Review: If there things you can count on in life, it’s death, taxes and Supernatural. But if one looks at the average ratings, it is down a fair amount (season 11 averaged 2.8M viewers, season 12 only 1.675M). But it would seem stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles are game to continue doing the series. For me, this has never been appointment viewing but it’s still entertaining enough and I do enjy Misha Collins’s contribution to the show as well as the continued brotherly dynamics between the Padalecki and Ackles. |

VIDEO – 4.0/5 |
Supernatural: The Complete Twelfth Season arrives on Blu-ray presented in its originally televised 1.78 widescreen aspect ratio and given a 1080p high-definition transfer (MPEG-4 AVC codec). The video more or less looks on par with how it did on TV however it’s not the most vibrant looking with drab colors for the most part though there are a few scenes where skin tones at least appear natural looking. |
AUDIO – 4.0/5 |
The 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track offered on each episode showcases good and clear dialogue levels and whenever the action does pick up, and there’s quite a bit in every episode, the depth isn’t half bad. Where the track falters is the LFE channel isn’t the best but when it kicks in, it’s a tad dull and the rear channels are pretty much relegated for the generic television score. |
OVERALL – 3.0/5 |
Overall, Supernatural: The Complete Twelfth Season isn’t great but still offers some entertaining episodes here and there and I do enjoy the core cast, especially Misha Collins. Based on the ratings, however, it could be season 13 might be an unlucky number, but while this was never appointment viewing or anything, it’s still a fun series. The Blu-ray meanwhile has good video and audio transfers but the features are a bit more limited compared to previous seasons… |
