Emotionally distant at times, Jackie is propelled mostly from the Natalie Portman’s performance and also features respectable production and costume designs as well as an intriguing enough character study.

PLOT SYNOPSIS

After her husband’s assassination, Jackie Kennedy’s (NATALIE PORTMAN) world is completely shattered. Traumatized and reeling with grief, over the course of the next week, as told in an interview with a journalist (BILLY CRUDUP), she must confront the unimaginable: consoling their two young children, vacating the home she painstakingly restored, and planning her husband’s funeral. Jackie quickly realizes that the next seven days will determine how history will define her husband’s legacy – and how she herself will be remembered.

SPECIAL FEATURES – 2.0/5

This release comes with a matted slip cover with a fold-out front cover. Inside is a DVD Copy and a redemption code for the Digital HD copy.

From Jackie to Camelot (22:25; HD) – This is a fairly in-depth making-of featurette with interviews by members of the cast and crew discussing the movie and Jackie Kennedy herself.

Theatrical Trailer (1:38; HD)

VIDEO – 3.25/5

Fox releases Jackie presented with a 1.66 widescreen aspect ratio, I suppose giving it the feel of the 1960s, and is shown with a 1080p high-definition transfer. This doesn’t look fantastic in high-definition with so-so detail while colors are more on the muted side but, as with the aspect ratio, probably in keeping with the time period, however there were some nice pops of color here and there.

AUDIO – 4.0/5

The disc includes a basic but effective enough DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track and for a movie that is mostly made up of dialogue, it’s decent. The majority of the audio comes through the center channel while the rear speakers are mostly for some ambient noises and a poignant score by Mica Levi (Under the Skin).

OVERALL – 3.0/5

Overall, emotionally distant at times, Jackie is propelled mostly from the Natalie Portman’s performance and also features respectable production and costume designs as well as an intriguing enough character study. The Blu-ray released by Fox offers fine video, good audio and thin bonus material.
