There’s a reason these multi-pack movie collections have a small SRP as they’re geared toward more casual movie fans and I suspect some of these were previously available in some fashion in other collections. If you’re not a videophile and want a wide selection to watch on a Saturday night, these might be worth the price.

THE MOVIES
|
Mill Creek Entertainment is known for their bargain releases and the three recent sets combine for a rather massive 50 movies of mostly equal quality, i.e. these aren’t very good films with few exceptions. Topping it off, there are a few that are available on Blu-ray in 1080p high-definition. The action movies, with the exception of the likes of Last Action Hero, S.W.A.T. and Basic can be a chore to sit through while the horror options might be awful but there’s some enjoyment and appreciation in just how bad they are. Should also be noted, the last few films in the action pack are more suspense-thrillers than action… To keep this review more manageable, I will list the movies available in each set (as they appear by disc). SPECIAL FEATURES – 0/5 |
The 3 sets all come in standard DVD cases but no features were included even though some individual releases came with bonus material. |
VIDEO – 3.0/5, AUDIO – 3.0/5
|
In most cases, there are four movies on a disc (with others like SWAT/Basic and Maximum Risk/Stealth being paired up) so you’re going to get compression issues but even so, these at least don’t look terrible. Similarly, these films are given rather basic Dolby Digital 2.0 tracks which are serviceable but hardly noteworthy. |
OVERALL – 2.5/5 |
Overall, there’s a reason these multi-pack movie collections have a small SRP as they’re geared toward more casual movie fans and I suspect some of these were previously available in some fashion in other collections. I can’t wholly recommend any of these collections but if you like owning some semi-obscure titles and don’t care about video or audio quality (or in some cases, features), it might be worth the price. |
