The Initiation is your common 1980s slasher film with some shoddy performances but at least a fun quotient that will entertain fans, though for myself this is probably a one-and-done viewing.

VIDEO – 4.25/5

Arrow Video releases The Initiation onto Blu-ray for the first time presented with a 1.85 widescreen aspect ratio and a 1080p high-definition transfer (MPEG-4 AVC codec). For what was a low budget 1980s slasher flick, this new 2K restoration from the original camera negative looks pretty damn good. Colors are fairly bright in daylight scenes and darker shots, while showing some heavy grain, still allow detail to show through. There were no obvious signs of artifacts, aliasing, film damage or other major flaws.

AUDIO – 4.0/5

The disc has been given a nice sounding LPCM 1.0 track which offers decent dialogue levels while other elements, especially during the bloody third act, gives off well balanced screams that should impress any fan of the genre. The generic music also comes through the center channel pretty well.

OVERALL – 3.25/5

Overall, The Initiation is your common 1980s slasher film with some shoddy performances but at least a fun quotient that will entertain fans, though for myself this is probably a one-and-done viewing. As for the Blu-ray from Arrow Video, there are some OK features while the video/audio transfers are both well done.
