PLOT SYNOPSIS

Somewhere out in deep space live the Herculoids. Humanoid Zandor (MIKE ROAD) – along with his wife Tara (VIRGINIA GREGG), and son, Dorno (TED ECCLES) – leads a group of unique creatures: Zok the flying dragon, powerful simian Igoo (who has rocklike skin), rhinoceros hybrid Tundro and two protoplasmic wonders appropriately named Gloop and Gleep. Together, they use their diverse super-strengths to defend their utopian planet against attack from such sinister invaders as the Pod Creatures, the Reptons and the Mutoids.

SPECIAL FEATURES – 1/5

VIDEO – 4/5, AUDIO – 3½/5

Like Space Ghost, The Herculoids has a rough animation style though perhaps for its time wasn’t terrible crude. Even so, this 1080p high-definition transfer doesn’t look bad at all. Detail is adequate enough while colors do have some vibrancy. Not sure how much restoration was done but I have to assume this is a notable upgrade over any previous DVD release and certainly how it look on television.

All 18 episodes come with a basic but okay DTS-HD Master Audio Mono track. Dialogue comes across with good clarity as does the cheesy music and sound effects. While not phenomenal, nobody would expect an animated from the 1960s would receive lossless tracks.
