Royal Deceit is a period piece taking liberties with Shakesepeare but does feature a great cast that includes Christian Bale, Helen Mirren, Kate Beckinsale, Gabriel Byrne and Andy Serkis in his feature film debut.

PLOT SYNOPSIS

A young prince (CHRISTIAN BALE), after discovering that his father has been murdered, vows to avenge the death and regain the crown. Plotting his revenge, he cleverly bides his time waiting and watching – and hoping – for the precise moment to execute the deadly plan.

SPECIAL FEATURES – ½/5

The release includes a Theatrical Trailer.

VIDEO – 3/5

Royal Deceit debuts, at least in North America, on Blu-ray through MVD’s “Marquee Collection”, presented with a 1.78 widescreen aspect ratio and a 1080p high-definition transfer. For the most part this looks fine however it is rather flaw in any texture or colors. In addition, there are many instances of dust marks and specs that permeate just about every scene and especially noticeable in the darkly lit shots. At the very least detail isn’t bad on the close-ups and skin tones appear to be well balanced.

AUDIO – 3½/5

The movie comes equipped with an adequate PCM 2.0 track that outputs clear dialogue and some so-so depth for the battle sequences. On the plus side, I didn’t really detect any significant pops or hisses, but as a whole it is pretty basic.
