PLOT SYNOPSIS

Brilliant, visionary Nikola Tesla (ETHAN HAWKE) fights an uphill battle to bring his revolutionary electrical system to fruition, then faces even thornier challenges with his new system for worldwide wireless energy. Tesla’s uneasy interactions with his fellow inventor Thomas Edison (KYLE MACLACHLAN) and his patron George Westinghouse (JIM GAFFIGAN) are in sharp contrast to his sidewinding appeal to financial titan J.P. Morgan (DONNIE KESHAWARZ. Meanwhile, Morgan’s daughter Anne (EVE HEWSON) takes a more than casual interest in the inventor.

SPECIAL FEATURES – 2½/5

This release comes with a matted slip cover and the inner sleeve is reversible. Features are limited with only a Behind the Scenes (18:50) featurette and the Theatrical Trailer (2:15).

VIDEO – 4½/5

Shout Factory releases Tesla onto Blu-ray and presented in its original 1.85 widescreen aspect ratio and a 1080p high-definition transfer. All things considered, especially since this is a dark looking movie to begin with, I thought detail was sharp and nicely defined throughout and colors are toned down to a more natural side of things, so more browns and yellows than anything that has a pop.

AUDIO – 4½/5

The disc comes with a standard DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track. There’s not a whole lot to the movie considering it is a drama, dialogue comes across with good clarity and there is some minor depth for a scene or two.
