Body Parts is an entertaining little horror-thriller, a Frankenstein-like feature, starring the wonderfully underappreciated Jeff Fahey and the gore effects work for the time wasn’t half bad.

PLOT SYNOPSIS |
Bill Chrushank (JEFF FAHEY) is a criminal psychologist who loses his arm and nearly his life in a grisly car accident. A daring medical operation follows, in which a donor’s arm is successfully grafted onto Bill’s body. But after the operation, the arm starts to take on a violent life of its own, striking out against Bill’s wife (KIM DELANEY) and children. Consumed by fears about his dangerous behavior, Bill is driven to learn the donor’s identity – and makes a horrifying discovery that delivers him into a world of unimaginable terror. |
SPECIAL FEATURES – 4.5/5 |
This release comes fairly well stacked with features plus the cover art is reversible. Audio Commentary with Co-Writer/Director Eric Red Interviews:
Good selection of interviewees here, with Eric Red especially going in-depth on his career and directing this film and the others follow a similar structure. Unfortunate they couldn’t rope in Jeff Fahey to do an interview for whatever reason. Deleted Footage (10:03) with optional commentary by Red. Also included are several Trailers (4:07) and a Still Gallery (2:44). |
VIDEO – 4.0/5 |
Shout Factory releases Body Parts onto Blu-ray, presented in its original 2.35 widescreen aspect ratio and given a 1080p high-definition transfer. Not sure if any restoration work was done or if the transfer was provided by Paramount, but the picture doesn’t look too bad actually. Detail is relatively sharp while the natural film grain was on the softer side, though still colors were fairly decent albeit not exactly vibrant, instead likely how the film was originally shown in theaters and home video. |
AUDIO – 4.5/5 |
The movie comes with a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track (a 2.0 option is also available) and surprisingly, this was a strong track. Dialogue comes through the center channel, but some effective depth via the front and rear channels, both with the car accident as well as the score, most notably the opening credits. |
OVERALL – 3.5/5 |
Body Parts is an entertaining little horror-thriller, a Frankenstein-like feature, starring the wonderfully underappreciated Jeff Fahey and the gore effects work for the time wasn’t half bad. Nothing I’d really remember a month from now to be honest, but still worth checking out. This Blu-ray release from Shout Factory offers up respectable video/audio transfers and a solid selection of bonus features. |
