Project Ithaca is a mess of a film between some bad acting mixed with haphazard script and scattershot editing, beyond that it’s just that compelling of a story, this is the type of movie that would wind up as part of free option on Amazon Prime.

PLOT SYNOPSIS |
A malevolent alien species has been abducting humans for decades… possibly centuries. Their endgame: to harvest enough human emotional energy to open a wormhole through which their spacecrafts can pass and conquer our world. To end this threat, the U.S. military initiates Project Ithaca, a top-secret plan to teleport a human-alien hybrid, SERA, aboard the “mother ship” to destroy it. SERA awakes inside the alien craft along with five others. Divided, they will die; only together, can they defeat the aliens and find a way home. |
SPECIAL FEATURES – 0/5 |
This release comes with a semi-glossy slip cover. Inside is a redemption code for the Digital HD copy. No features were included. |
VIDEO – 4.0/5 |
Lionsgate approves Project Ithaca onto Blu-ray where its presented with a 2.40 widescreen aspect ratio and given a 1080p high-definition transfer. The picture quality is pretty much in line with what I would expect from a low budget (approximately $3.5M USD) science fiction film where some of the lesser production design is hidden by dark lighting. As such, detail still isn’t bad though there’s not a whole lot of colors save for the flashback scenes where some does shine through. |
AUDIO – 4.0/5 |
The included DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track was well rounded but should be noted, a fair portion of the movie consists of characters yelling at one another, and some good depth with the rear channels being relegated to ambient noises with the sounds of the alien mother ship. Nothing phenomenal but still more than adequate. |
OVERALL – 1.5/5 |
Project Ithaca is a mess of a film between some bad acting mixed with haphazard script and scattershot editing, beyond that it’s just that compelling of a story, this is the type of movie that would wind up as part of free option on Amazon Prime. The Blu-ray release is basic with zero features though the video and audio transfers were adequate. |
