The Ninth Season of Hawaii Five-O is solid enough entertainment but the series has grown a bit tired at times, however I do still like the ensemble cast.

PLOT SYNOPSIS

Whether it’s confronting a cold case, chasing down a cybercriminal, whacking a mole in the CIA, stopping the killing spree of a serial SEAL assassin, or shutting down a meth lab tucked away in a B&B, it’s all in a day’s work for the tireless ohana of the Hawaii PD. Family also adds to the drama as “Danno” (SCOTT CAAN) gets taken down a notch by his high-maintenance ex-mother-in-law (JOAN COLLINS), and Lou (CHI MCBRIDE) has to broker peace when his parents (GLADYS KNIGHT and LOUIS GOSSETT JR.) arrive for Thanksgiving.

SPECIAL FEATURES – 2.5/5

This six-disc set comes housed in a clear DVD case and a slip cover.

There are a few featurettes, but nothing major: Five-O@200 on the series’ 200th episode; Giving Thanks on the Thanksgiving episode; and Shorelines: Season 9 breaking down the ninth season stories and characters.

Deleted Scenes — ‘Cocoon’, ‘A Bruise Inflicted on an Innocent Person Vanishes Quickly’, ‘Depressed with the Heat of Keawalua’, ‘When Covetousness is Conceived, Sin is Born’, ‘Offer Young Taro Leaves To’, ‘A Stranger Only for a Day’, ‘The Hand is at Fault’

Gag Reel

VIDEO – 4.5/5, AUDIO – 4.0/5

Hawaii Five-O: The Ninth Season is shown in its original televised 1.78 widescreen aspect ratio and the tropical setting comes across really nicely even in standard definition and on DVD. There is some minor banding but all in all, it does look good with brightly lit colors.

Each episode comes with a standard Dolby Digital 5.1 track which offers clear, if not a little heavy, dialogue levels with the music, including the iconic main theme, giving the most depth of the tracks.

OVERALL – 3.0/5

The Ninth Season of Hawaii Five-O is solid enough entertainment but the series has grown a bit tired at times, however I do still like the ensemble cast, mainly Alex O’Loughlin and Scott Caan and the banter between one another.
