I never was an avid watcher of the original Charmed series but watched a few episodes here and there, but generally enjoyed it. This newest version seems to have richer production values but I haven’t yet bought in to the core trio, but there is room to grow.

SEASON SYNOPSIS

This reboot of the original series centers around sisters Mel (MELONIE DIAZ) and Maggie Vera (SARAH JEFFERY) dealing with the sudden death of their mother. Before they have time to heal from their loss, a surprise shows up on their doorstep in the shape of an older sister – brilliant geneticist Macy (MADELEINE MANTOCK) whom their mother never told them existed. The emotional stress takes its toll and the girls begin to exhibit impossible new abilities. An explanation comes from an unexpected place: the chair of the women’s studies department. Harry Greenwood (RUPERT EVANS) reveals that the three are powerful witches and he is their whitelighter, there to advise and guide them as they battle dark forces and vanquish supernatural demons, all while maintaining familial bonds.

SPECIAL FEATURES – 2.0/5

This five-disc set is housed in a clear DVD case and comes with a title-embossed slip cover. Features are light with only The Charmed Life: A Bewitching First Season behind-the-scenes featurette and a Gag Reel.

VIDEO – 4.25/5, AUDIO – 4.0/5

Paramount releases Charmed: Season One with a 1.78 anamorphic widescreen transfer that likely looks on par as it aired on television and includes a standard but effective Dolby Digital 5.1 track.

OVERALL – 2.5/5

Overall, I never was an avid watcher of the original Charmed series but watched a few episodes here and there, but generally enjoyed it. This newest version seems to have richer production values in comparison but haven’t yet bought in to the core trio, but there is room to grow.
