How to Stuff a Wild Bikini is a time capsule of the beach party movies of the 1960s that made names of Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello. It’s not very good but still pretty safe and does have a certain innocent charm.

THE MOVIE — 2.5/5 |
Plot Synopsis: How to Stuff a Wild Bikini finds swinging, surfing, singer, Frankie (FRANKIE AVALON) serving naval reserve duty in Tahiti separated from his beach bunny, Dee Dee (ANNETTE FUNICELLO). Frankie, learning that Dee Dee might be having as much fun as he is in his tropical paradise, enlists the help of the local island witch doctor, Bwana (BUSTER KEATON) to keep an eye on what’s going on back home. And what’s going on back home is that suave advertising executive Ricky (DWAYNE HICKMAN) has his sights set on Dee Dee. And Dee Dee might just be receptive to his advances. Review: Full disclosure, these 1960s era “beach” musical movies don’t do much for me and were well before my time. They’re of course hokey and the acting way over-the-top though at times can be fun. How to Stuff a Wild Bikini, based on my reading, was the final pairing of Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello though the two are kept apart for the duration of the film due to, apparently, Avalon wanting more money and he was growing tired of the Beach Party films. I suppose if you’re a fan of the subgenre of this ilk, this might be worth watching, for me it was a one and done viewing… |
SPECIAL FEATURES – 0.5/5 |
The only feature included is the Trailer (2:14). |
VIDEO – 4.5/5 |
Olive Films releases How to Stuff a Wild Bikini onto Blu-ray presented in its original 2.35 widescreen aspect ratio and given a very respectable 1080p high-definition transfer. The picture is pretty impressive, detail is relatively sharp throughout, colors are of course bright and cheerful in keeping with the style and tone of the movie while the natural film grain and noise was thoroughly retained, especially noticeable during the beach scenes. There were a few minor instances of dust marks in an otherwise clean transfer. |
AUDIO – 4.0/5 |
The disc includes a standard but serviceable PCM Mono track which does output crisp, clear and clean dialogue amongst the various music and songs permeating throughout the movie. |
OVERALL – 2.5/5 |
Overall, How to Stuff a Wild Bikini is a time capsule of the beach party movies of the 1960s that made names of Frankie Avalon (who basically makes a cameo appearance) and Annette Funicello. It’s not very good but still pretty safe and does have a certain innocent charm, I suppose. This Blu-ray from Olive Films offers good video/audio transfers though the features are lacking. |
