This double feature release of Age of Consent, with Helen Mirren, and Cactus Flower starring a trio of great talents in Walter Matthau, Ingrid Bergman and Goldie Hawn (who took home an Oscar for her role), makes for a fun time.

THE MOVIES |
Age of Consent (1969) — The movie centers on artist Bradley Morahan ((JAMES MASON), a jaded painter who heads to Australia looking for a way to revitalize his creative soul. His self-imposed exile is interrupted by Cora (HELEN MIRREN), an uninhibited young woman on her own journey of self-discovery. Cactus Flower (1969) — Distraught when her middle-aged lover breaks a date with her, 21-year-old Toni Simmons (GOLDIE HAWN) attempts suicide. Impressed by her action, her lover, dentist Julian Winston (WALTER MATTHAU) reconsiders marrying Toni, but he worries about her insistence on honesty. Having fabricated a wife and three children, Julian readily accepts when his devoted nurse, Stephanie (INGRID BERGMAN), who has secretly loved Julian for years, offers to act as his wife and demand a divorce. |
SPECIAL FEATURES – 0/5 |
Both movies are contained on a single disc. No features were included. |
VIDEO – 4.25/5 |
Age of Consent is shown in its original 1.78 widescreen aspect ratio and Cactus Flower in 1.85. Both films are presented with a 1080p high-definition and look quite good, especially for films released nearly 50 years ago and likely didn’t undergo any major restoration process from either Sony or Mill Creek. Detail is sharp while colors are fairly bright without appearing artificially lightened. There were some minor specs however nothing distracting. |
AUDIO – 3.5/5 |
The films received Uncompressed LPCM 2.0 tracks and although not exactly all encompassing, still sounded solid and both movies are filled with either dialogue or 1960s-era music/score. No major or discernible hisses or pops so all and all these were fine tracks. |
OVERALL – 3.0/5 |
This double feature release of Age of Consent, with Helen Mirren, and Cactus Flower starring a trio of great talents in Walter Matthau, Ingrid Bergman and Goldie Hawn (who took home an Oscar for her role), makes for a fun time. The Blu-ray itself offers good video and audio transfers but no bonus material. |
