Beneath the 12-Mile Reef isn’t bad with a Romeo and Juliet like story… in Florida. The film mostly excels with Robert Wagner’s charms rather than an interesting plot.

ABOUT THIS RELEASE

Just off the coast of Florida, two fishing operations have become spiteful business rivals. On one side is Mike Petrakis (GILBERT ROLAND) and on the other is Thomas Rhys (RICHARD BOONE). Mounting tension over territory in the Gulf Coast soon leads to violence. However, when dashing young Tony Petrakis (ROBERT WAGNER) meets the lovely Gwyneth Rhys (TERRY MOORE), the young lovers quickly forget their fathers’ bloody feud and begin a dangerous romance on the high seas.

SPECIAL FEATURES – 1.0/5

This comes with an 8-page booklet. The only feature is an old featurette, Robert Wagner: Hollywood’s Prince Charming is an episode of Biography from 1999 about the career of the legendary actor.

VIDEO – 3.5/5, AUDIO – 3.5/5

Twilight Time releases Beneath the 12-Mile Reef onto Blu-ray presented with a 2.55 widescreen aspect ratio and a 1080p high-definition transfer. This doesn’t exactly look fantastic but since it is a 60+ year old movie that received minimal restoration, it’s not bad. Detail on close-ups is decent and colors are generally bright.

The film comes with both a DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 and 5.1 tracks which sounds fine offering up crisp and clean dialogue levels throughout and any action, especially on the high seas, has ever so modest depth.

OVERALL – 2.5/5

Overall, Beneath the 12-Mile Reef isn’t bad with a Romeo and Juliet like story… in Florida. The film mostly excels with Robert Wagner’s charms rather than an interesting plot. The Blu-ray released through Twilight Time has okay video and audio transfers but is light on features.

  1. This is supposed to have lossless 5.1 audio. and a 3 channel isolated score.

  2. Thanks. It had two tracks for the movie (5.1 and 2.0). I usually don’t delve into the isolated score, but might do so in the future.
