There’s no question When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth is not a very good movie but even as one trying to ride the coattails of One Million Years B.C., it fails on that level as well. The only plus I found was for the impressive special effects (for its time), only a shame the story and acting wasn’t good.

PLOT SUMMARY

Sanna (VICTORIA VETRI) is rescued from ritual sacrifice by Tara (ROBIN HAWDON), a member of a rival tribe. Her survival coincides with the mysterious formation of a new “fire” in the sky: the moon. Sanna’s old tribe blames her for this affront to the sun; Sanaa flees their wrath and Tara follows. Their shared adventures loom as large as the giants who once ruled the earth…

SPECIAL FEATURES – 0.5/5

The only feature included was the Theatrical Trailer (2:48; HD).

VIDEO – 4.25/5

When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth debuts on Blu-ray through Warner’s Archive Collection (MOD) presented with a 1.78 widescreen aspect ratio and given a 1080p high-definition transfer. Considering this wasn’t a big blockbuster production (albeit in today’s dollars, it did cost around $4 million), this is a good looking video with bright colors, sharp detail and skin tones which appear natural.

AUDIO – 3.75/5

The disc comes with a DTS-HD Master Audio Mono track which I found to be serviceable enough providing for clear enough dialogue levels while depth is on the limited side though any sound effects come through that center speaker well enough.

OVERALL – 2.0/5

Overall, there’s no question When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth is not a very good movie but even as one trying to ride the coattails of One Million Years B.C., it fails on that level as well. The only plus I found was for the impressive special effects (for its time), only a shame the story and acting wasn’t good and making matters worse, the entire film is done in an entirely made-up, pre-historic language.
