Hyperdimension Neptunia is your typical Japanese anime series with your usual designs and humor, but I did find somewhat entertaining for what it is. This Complete Series set, through FUNimation’s S.A.V.E. line, offers good video/audio transfers while the features are, to say the least, light.

THE SERIES

Welcome to Gamindustri, a fantastical world where all your favorite video game consoles come to life. Neptune (RIE TANAKA/MELISSA FAHN) and her fellow Goddesses — Noire (ASAMI IMAI/ERIN FITZGERALD), Blanc (KANA ASUMI/WENDEE LEE) and Very (RINA SATO/TARA PLATT) — rule the four kingdoms of Lastation, Leanbox, Lowee, and Planeptune; but their royal duties often take a backseat to their obsession with gaming. When their button-mashing shenanigans are interrupted by rampaging monsters, hacker attacks, and killer eggplants, the goddesses must transform into stronger, sexier versions of themselves and fight for their right game!

The bosses get tougher as the game goes on, and the girls will have to work together in order to defeat a bewitching goddess of piracy, an anonymous master hacker, and an evil CPU hell-bent on destroying everything in her path – using any cheat code necessary!

VIDEO – 4.0/5

Hyperdimension Neptunia is presented with a 1.78 widescreen aspect ratio as originally televised and a 1080p high-definition transfer. Colors are generally bright and there’s even a fair representation of darker scenes which are stark and show no signs of artifacting or aliasing. Detail is relatively sharp and outside of some banding during transition scenes, it’s a fine looking HD transfer.

AUDIO – 4.0/5

As with the majority of FUNimation releases, this one comes with the option of English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 and Japanese 2.0. Considering I like watching movies and shows in their original language, I only sampled the English version and while it certainly has better depth, the Japanese language track does sound pretty good.

OVERALL – 3.0/5

Overall, Hyperdimension Neptunia is your typical Japanese anime series with your usual designs and humor, but I did find somewhat entertaining for what it is. This Complete Series set, through FUNimation’s S.A.V.E. line, offers good video/audio transfers while the features are, to say the least, light.
