The Devil’s Dolls is a standard but effective enough horror flick with some OK performances and nice atmosphere. It doesn’t break new ground in the genre, both in terms of story and direction, but fans of the genre might get something out of it.

PLOT SYNOPSIS
|
A serial killer’s curse unleashes a season of slaughter in the backwoods of Mississippi. According to an ancient Guatemalan tradition, parents teach their children to soothe their fears by giving them handmade “worry dolls” just before bedtime. But when several of these talismans — which once belonged to a notorious mass murderer — find their way into the hands of unsuspecting residents of a small Southern town, it sets off a grisly wave of bloodshed. |
SPECIAL FEATURES – 1.5/5 |
This release comes with a matted slip cover. Audio Commentary – Director Padraig Reynolds and Actor Christopher Wiehl sits down for a low-key and basic yet informative track as the pair break down the story and characters. Not the most exciting track but worth a listen. Storyboards:
Worry Dolls (1:04; HD) – This is just a collection of images of “worry dolls”. Move along. Theatrical Trailer (1:42; HD) |
VIDEO – 4.0/5 |
Shout Factory, via their Scream line, releases The Devil’s Dolls presented with a 2.40 widescreen aspect ratio and 1080p high-definition transfer. The picture is decent and is clean, digital look to it. Colors are a bit toned down in keeping with the horror genre but there are splashes of it here and there. |
AUDIO – 4.0/5 |
The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track isn’t the best but shows off some depth with the usual blood-curdling screams and some ambient, mood-creating, noises which make use of the rear speakers while the LFE channel kicks in for minor effects. |
OVERALL – 2.5/5 |
Overall, The Devil’s Dolls is a standard but effective enough horror flick with some OK performances and nice atmosphere. It doesn’t break new ground in the genre, both in terms of story and direction, but fans of the genre might get something out of it. The Blu-ray released through Shout Factory offers good video/audio transfers and some forgettable bonus features. |
