Creepshow 2 certainly isn’t as good as its predecessor (which had a fantastic line-up of actors) but this sequel is still a lot of fun with one memorable line (“Thanks for the ride, lady!”). While I wasn’t a fan of ‘Old Chief Wood’nhead’, the other two stories weren’t bad at all.

Plot Synopsis: In “Old Chief Wood’nhead”, a group of young hoodlums face retribution from an unlikely source after looting a local hardware store and killing the owners (GEORGE KENNEDY, DOROTHY LAMOUR). Meanwhile, “The Raft” sees a group of horny teens wishing they’d read the warning signs first before taking a dip in a remote lake where some sort glob is gunning for them. Finally, an uptight businesswoman (LOIS CHILES) finds herself with some unwanted company following a hit-and-run incident in “The Hitch-hiker”. Quick Hit Review: I’m not normally a fan of these short features but I did enjoy at least two out of the three (Raft and Hitch-hiker) for the half-baked writing, quasi-bad acting and all around cheesy gore effects. “The Raft” in particular has an old school, 1950s, vibe to it giving an extra layer of entertainment. “Old Chief Wood’nhead” was OK but didn’t quite live up to its potential, though it’s always nice seeing George Kennedy. |
SPECIAL FEATURES – 4.0/5 |

With moderator Perry Martin, the track is lively enough and gives some nice bits of info. Screenplay for a Sequel (10:45; HD) – Interview with George A. Romero. Tales from the Creep (7:53; HD) – Actor/Make-Up Artist Tom Savini discusses working on the movie and the make-up work on the Creep. Poncho’s Last Ride (14:44; HD) – New interview with Actor Daniel Beer (Randy). The Road to Dover (13:51; HD) is a new interview with Actor Tom Wright (The Hitchhiker); however you’ll recognize him from Seinfeld. Behind-the-Scenes (5:50; HD) is just some raw footage on the set or location. Rounding things out is an Image Gallery (3:34; HD), 2 Theatrical Trailers (1:38)(1:12) and a TV Spot (0:34). |
VIDEO – 4.5/5 |
Arrow Video unleashes Creepshow 2 onto Blu-ray presented in the film’s original 1.85 widescreen aspect ratio and given a 1080p high-definition transfer culled from the 35mm negative and scanned to 2K resolution. As a relatively cheap production, I was impressed with the work the studio did with natural-looking skin tones, relatively sharp detail and a clean looking transfer with no noticeable instances of dust marks, scratches or other ailments. |
AUDIO – 4.0/5 |
The movie comes equipped with an adequate, and moderately impressive, DTS-HD Master Audio tracks with three options: 1.0, 2.0 and 5.1 and encoded in that order. Sampling all three, the mono version is the way to go with crisp and clean dialogue levels and even the soundtrack comes through the center channel well enough. The stereo option does have a more hollow, echoed vibe while the 5.1 track is a bit more rounded and does sound okay, though purists will want to stick to the 1.0 default. |
OVERALL – 3.5/5 |
Overall, Creepshow 2 certainly isn’t as good as its predecessor (which had a fantastic line-up of actors) but this sequel is still a lot of fun with one memorable line (“Thanks for the ride, lady!”). While I wasn’t a fan of ‘Old Chief Wood’nhead’, the other two stories weren’t bad at all. This new Blu-ray released through Arrow Video offers up great video/audio transfers and a solid selection of bonus features. |
