PLOT SYNOPSIS

To amuse themselves during the winter school break, the kids in a small village decide to have a massive snowball fight. Luke (ANGELA GALLUPO) and Sophie (LUCINDA DAVIS), both 11 years old, become the leaders of the opposing sides. Sophie and her cohorts defend an elaborate snow fort against the assault of Luke’s horde. Whichever side occupies the fort at the end of the winter break, wins! But what starts out as pure youthful fun and enthusiasm deteriorates into a more serious conflict. Can joy and peace be restored, or will the kids’ friendship fall in a flurry of ice and snow?

2D VIDEO – 4.5/5, 3D VIDEO — 4.0/5

Shout Factory, through their new Shout Kids line, releases Snowtime with a 2.35 widescreen aspect ratio and given a 1080p high-definition transfer and the film looks like an animated feature should: bright colors throughout, nice and sharp detail and no major flaws like banding, artifacts or aliasing. The disc also includes the 3D version and although not the best, still looks good with some nice depth perception in some instances.

AUDIO – 4.25/5

The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track (a 2.0 option is also available) showcases mainly dialogue coming via the center channel but the front and rear speakers get some usage with the music or ambient noises. It’s nothing I’d call amazing but for a kid’s movie it’s a half decent lossless track.

OVERALL – 3.0/5

Overall, Snowtime is a well animated movie with a good message at its core, one that both kids and adults could appreciate it and the humor is often fun. The Blu-ray released by Shout Factory offers great video/audio transfers and a so-so selection of bonus features.
