PLOT SYNOPSIS
|
Coming-of-age comedy with a unique spin, Morris from America centers on Morris (MARKEES CHRISTMAS), a 13-year-old who has just relocated with his single father (CRAIG ROBINSON) to Heidelberg, Germany, Morris, who fancies himself the next Notorious B.I.G., is a complete fish out of water — a budding hip-hop star in an EDM world. To complicate matters further, Morris quickly falls hard for his cool, rebellious, 15-year-old classmate, Katrin (LINA KELLER). Morris sets out against all odds to take the hip-hop world by storm, and win the girl of his dreams. |
SPECIAL FEATURES – 2.25/5 |
This release comes with a matted slip cover and inside is a redemption code for the Digital HD copy. Audio Commentary – Writer/Director Chad Hartigan is joined by actors Craig Robinson and Markees Christmas as they provide a fun and lively track but also informative with anecdotal stories. Making Morris From America (11:22; HD) is your basic behind-the-scenes featurette with on-location interviews with members of the cast and crew as they break down the story and characters. Deleted Scene (1:18; HD) – A singular scene is included, but nothing of note. Also included are Casting Tapes (4:28; HD) and a Gag Reel (2:35; HD). Previews – Swiss Army Man, The Lobster, Into the Forest, Equals, The Adderall Diaries |
VIDEO – 4.5/5 |
Morris From America arrives on Blu-ray presented in with a 1080p high-definition transfer (MPEG-4 AVC codec) and a 1.85 widescreen aspect ratio. The video is sharp and well defined throughout, colors appear to be vibrant and natural looking and there weren’t any major instances of artifacts, aliasing or banding. It’s nothing I’d call reference quality work but it is keeping with the drama-comedy genre. |
AUDIO – 4.5/5 |
The disc comes with a nice sounding 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track and there’s a good range from dialogue-driven scenes (which comprises about 90% of the film) but it expands with some choice music (rap, old and new school) making usage of the front and rear channels, with the latter also showcasing some minor ambient sounds. |
OVERALL – 3.0/5 |
Overall, Morris From America is an entertaining, often charming, coming-of-age romantic-drama-comedy featuring a fine performance from newcomer Markees Christmas as well as Craig Robinson showing his more dramatic side. The Blu-ray released by Lionsgate offers good video/audio transfers and an OK selection of bonus features. |
