While not quite as strong as its inaugural season, “The Affair” excels mainly on the acting more so than the stories which, for me, aren’t quite as compelling. Still, it’s at least entertaining and at only 12 episodes, can binge watch, well over the course of only a couple of days anyway.

THE SEASON |
With a murder unsolved and a betrayal exposed, the truth is suspect. Shifting between the perspectives of Noah (DOMINIC WEST), Alison (RUTH WILSON), Helen (MAURA TIERNEY) and Cole (JOSHUA JACKSON), the story now reveals the complex family ties, passionate betrayals and vengeful emotions that have results from the illicit summer liaison between Noah and Alison. And as the two estranged couples try individually to plan for the future, a new series of deceptions will once again force them to question everything they believed. |
SPECIAL FEATURES – 2.0/5 |
This 5-disc set is housed in a standard clear DVD case which side-slides into a matted slip cover. The fifth disc in this set merely contains two bonus episodes of “Billions”. Features-wise, it’s a tad limited with Character Profiles (TRT 8:08) on Noah, Alison, Helen and Cole; Tour of Montauk (7:18) featurette on the vacation town where the affair began; and Memory Lanes (9:48) is about the discrepancies of Noah and Alison’s stories. |
VIDEO – 4.0/5, AUDIO – 3.75/5
|
“The Affair” is presented in its originally televised anamorphic widescreen 1.78 aspect ratio and each episode is accompanied with a standard but effective Dolby Digital 5.1 track providing for clear dialogue levels and decent depth with the music/soundtrack. |
OVERALL – 3.5/5 |
Overall, while not quite as strong as its inaugural season, “The Affair” excels mainly on the acting more so than the stories which, for me, aren’t quite as compelling. Still, it’s at least entertaining and at only 12 episodes, can binge watch, well over the course of only a couple of days anyway. As for the release itself, the video and audio transfers are good but the features have much to be desired. |
