THE MOVIE – 2.0/5

Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo are four genetically mutated turtles who have grown into human-sized, ninja-powered crime-fighters living in the sewers of New York City. Under the tutelage of Master Splinter, these four teens have spent their formative years fighting their nemesis, Shredder, and his evil army. But the turtles’ world is about to change. If you thought Shredder was bad, wait until you meet the newest TMNT foe – Dragon’s Lord! It will take all the power of the turtles to combat this new villain…lucky for them, they will have help from a new ninja turtle, a female turtle named Venus De Milo!

Quick Hit Review: What presumably is a follow-up to the feature films, as evidenced from the crappy turtle suits, though even the Turtles III costumes were better believe it or not, and that their headquarters is underground in an abandoned train station, “Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation” is an abomination of a series where Saban attempted to make it into something akin to “Power Rangers” (to the point where there were cross-over episodes). But beyond that, or because of it I suppose, it’s just not very good: the jokes fell completely flat, the action and choreography was dreadful and even the voice talents were pretty bad; of course it didn’t help the voices didn’t synch with the mouth movements which makes the turtles incredibly creepy.

VIDEO – 3.0/5 | AUDIO – 2.75/5

“Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation” arrives on DVD presented with a 1.33 full frame aspect ratio as it was originally advertised and given a Dolby Digital 2.0 soundtrack which at least is serviceable but hardly great.

OVERALL – 2.0/5

Overall, “Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation” is just a bad series that I suppose young kids might enjoy but any fan of the original will find to be an abomination that will lead one to appreciate the newest incarnation. The DVD released through Shout Factory offers OK video/audio transfers while the features are extremely limited.
