Ironclad: Battle for Blood is an unnecessary sequel and add to that, doesn’t come close to having the talent the original did (Brian Cox, Kate Mara, Paul Giamatti, Jason Flemyng) but with the popularity of shows like “Game of Thrones”, it’s a quick money grab by a smaller studio, though the quality this go around, both in terms of story and production values, isn’t that great.

Steel yourself for another brutal battle, as one of the few survivors of the Great Siege of Rochester Castle fights to protect his family’s estate from fierce Celtic raiders. With a new battleground and a new enemy, Ironclad: Battle for Blood delivers the same ferocious, adrenaline-filled action that defined Ironclad.
SPECIAL FEATURES – 1.5/5
This release comes with a thin, easily damaged, slip cover.
Behind the Blood (15:04; HD) is a simple behind-the-scenes featurette covering the story, stunt work and other elements.
Theatrical Trailer (1:30; HD)
VIDEO – 4.5/5
Ironclad: Battle for Blood fights its way onto Blu-ray presented with a 2.35 widescreen aspect ratio and a 1080p high-definition transfer. The picture here actually doesn’t look too bad with good detail levels, some natural film noise and no obvious signs of artifacting or pixilation.
AUDIO – 4.25/5
The 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track also is relatively impressive showcasing the numerous fight scenes that utilize each speaker while dialogue, which is generally clear, is relegated to the center channel. Although the rear speakers aren’t used as much, I did notice the aggressive score coming out of it.
OVERALL – 2.5/5
Overall, Ironclad: Battle for Blood is an unnecessary sequel and add to that, doesn’t come close to having the talent the original did (Brian Cox, Kate Mara, Paul Giamatti, Jason Flemyng) but with the popularity of shows like “Game of Thrones”, it’s a quick money grab by a smaller studio, though the quality this go around, both in terms of story and production values, isn’t that great. The video and audio transfers are, however, decent enough while the solo featurette is pretty basic.
