Ritual is a second-rate supernatural thriller that features a decent performance from the lovely Jennifer Grey. Is she enough for one to sit through 90-minutes? Probably not, but I suppose if you’ve enjoyed even below average “Tales from Crypt” episodes, you might find this to be an adequate outing.

Plot Outline: Jobless after having her medical license revoked, Dr. Alice Dodgson (JENNFER GREY) accepted an offer to travel to Jamaica and treat American Paul Claybourne’s (CRAIG SHEFFER) mysteriously ailing brother. But immediately upon her arrival, Alice finds herself immersed in the exotic rhythm and harmony of this foreign civilization…and besieged by the locals with terrifying tales of zombies and demonic possession. As her long-held faith in science clashes with her new experiences in the supernatural, Alice must ultimately submit to the strange native culture to save her patient, while fighting to escape with her own life.

Echo Bridge releases Ritual on Blu-ray with a modest 1080i high-definition transfer. The movie is presented with a 1.78 widescreen aspect ratio and although it’s no doubt a step above the DVD version, especially considering it’s probably a low budget flick to begin with, the transfer is fairly dirty with plenty of dust marks (as seen over the opening sequence) and scratch marks.
AUDIO – 3.25/5
The disc comes with an adequate 2.0 DTS-HD Master Audio track. As you might imagine, the audio here isn’t anything amazing where everything is pretty flat and doesn’t offer much depth.
OVERALL – 2.0/5
Overall, Ritual is a second-rate supernatural thriller that features a decent performance from the lovely Jennifer Grey. Is she enough for one to sit through 90-minutes? Probably not, but I suppose if you’ve enjoyed even below average “Tales from Crypt” episodes, you might find this to be an adequate outing. The Blu-ray itself is at a bargain base price so the video/audio quality isn’t going to be anything to write home about not to mention there are no features included.
