The Longest Ride is just another typical Nicholas Sparks adaptation and frankly, I can at least say it’s better than The Best of Me though doesn’t hold a candle to The Notebook, and not many of Sparks’ book-to-films have. Still, the two leads weren’t terrible and it’s nice seeing Alan Alda with a bit more material than usual.

The Best of Me is the typical Nicholas Sparks tripe that was permissible in his earlier adaptations (still like The Notebook in spite of a few flaws) and now we get the template and a predictable story capped off with a chuckle-worthy conclusion which only had me cursing at the screen.

Safe Haven is an overwrought romance-drama that hits similar chords from the other Nicholas Sparks’ movie adaptations with a bit of a suspense wrinkle thrown in. Even taking the romantic angle aside, the movie is very predictable and while I applaud and give credit to the two stars, neither one were particularly effective. The Blu-ray features a solid video transfer, the audio is merely acceptable and bonus material isn’t anything special.
