ABOUT THIS RELEASE

A Scotland Yard inspector’s search for a missing film star leads him to a haunted house. The house sets the framework for four separate tales of terror written by the author of Psycho, Robert Bloch, and starring horror icons Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee and Ingrid Pitt. All four stories center on the mysterious fates of tenants who have leased the mansion over the years.

SPECIAL FEATURES – 2.5/5

The release comes with two Audio Commentaries, one with Director Peter Duffell & Jonathan Rigby; and the other with Author Troy Howarth, which is new. Also included is a Vintage Featurette (17:03; HD), an Interview (9:29; HD) with Second Assistant Director Mike Higgins, an Image Gallery (5:03; HD), Theatrical Trailers (3:38; HD), some Radio Spots (3:28; HD) and Amicus Radio Spots & Gallery (14:08; HD).

VIDEO – 4.25/5, AUDIO – 3.5/5

Shout Factory, through their Scream line, releases The House That Dripped Blood onto Blu-ray shown in its original 1.85 widescreen aspect ratio and a 1080p high-definition transfer. Outside of a few minor specs, this is a fine looking picture featuring sharp detail and colors are generally bright, such as the red on Christopher Lee’s night jacket.

The included DTS-HD Master Audio Mono track is serviceable outputting clear dialogue levels and not very much in the way of hisses or white noise. Nothing outstanding, but probably a modest upgrade over any of the DVD releases.

OVERALL – 3.5/5

Overall, The House That Dripped Blood is a fun enough anthology movie that is mostly entertaining seeing this cast which includes Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, Denholm Elliott and Jon Pertwee, even if they’re not all in the same scenes together. This release from Shout Factory has good video/audio transfers and an all right selection of bonus material.
