THE MOVIE<\/strong> \u2013 3.0\/5<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Eugene van Wingerdt (SCOTT GLENN) is a small-town barber hiding a dark secret. Twenty years earlier he was arrested for several gruesome murders, but was released due to insufficient evidence. The detective in charge of the case killed himself in despair. Now the detective\u2019s son (CHRIS COY) is in town, with a few secrets of his own. Is he seeking revenge or hoping to learn at the feet of the master?<\/p>\n

Quick Hit Review:
\nThe Barber<\/em><\/strong> isn\u2019t the best written suspense thriller nor is particularly engaging dragging in some spots but the acting isn\u2019t altogether bad from Chris Coy to Kristen Hager and even Olivia Taylor Dudley (upcoming The Vatican Tapes<\/em>) but the biggest reason The Barber<\/em><\/strong> even works is because of Scott Glenn proving he\u2019s still one hell of an actor and it\u2019s refreshing to see him in a leading role. In the end, The Barber<\/em><\/strong> might be worth a rental mainly for Scott Glenn otherwise it\u2019s a forgettable thriller that could\u2019ve been better.<\/p>\n

The film was helmed by Basel Owies marking his feature-length debut and written by Mac Enscoe whose career is comprised of TV movies that included Return to Halloweentown<\/em> and Prince William<\/em> drama which aired back in 2002 on ABC.<\/p>\n

The Barber<\/em><\/strong> arrives on Blu-ray presented with a 2.39 widescreen aspect ratio and a 1080p high-definition transfer. The colors are fairly bright and details are well defined with no discernible artifacts or aliasing, however I did notice some banding during some transitions. Still, it\u2019s a fine looking and satisfying transfer that might not look incredible but has some good things going for it.

The film includes a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track which offers crisp and clear dialogue levels throughout and considering the bulk of the movie is mostly talk, it\u2019s not terribly dynamic yet still effective especially when the soundtrack\/score kicks in.<\/p>\n
