When a young couple (NIAMH ALGAR, STEPHEN CROMWELL) embark on a road trip through the Irish countryside, car trouble lands them in a place that few people would choose to visit.<\/p>\n

MPI Home Video releases From the Dark<\/em><\/strong> onto Blu-ray presented with a 1.85 widescreen aspect ratio and a 1080p high-definition transfer (AVC codec). It\u2019s not the most brilliant looking picture or anything, at times it was a bit murky and some shots look obviously as day for night and in those the noise\/grain is glaring. Still, colors, when in the light, look well balance and some detail levels do look acceptable.

AUDIO \u2013 4.0\/5<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The movie includes a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track which is effective enough. The bulk of the film is quiet with minimal dialogue, outside of the opening 5-10 minutes so the track is made up for more atmosphere than anything. The depth is half decent with the LFE track kicking in every so often while ambient noises, such as off-screen elements, making good use of the front and rear channels.<\/p>\n

OVERALL \u2013 3.0\/5<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Overall, From the Dark<\/em><\/strong> is an effective Irish horror-thriller that, in spite of two main characters who aren\u2019t the most likeable couple, has some scary scenes. Plot-wise, it\u2019s more or less the same as many other independent flicks but if you enjoy the genre, this might be worth at least a rental. The Blu-ray released by MPI has some OK bonus material, the video is adequate while the audio is efficient.<\/p>\n
