Once upon a time Keith Michaels (HUGH GRANT) was an award-winning Hollywood screenwriter, but divorce and a string of unsuccessful films have left him with nothing but bad debts and blank pages. So when his agent arranges a job as a guest screenwriting professor at a remote university in upstate New York, a desperate Keith can\u2019t say no. Initially hoping to give minimal effort to actual teaching so he can focus on his next script, Keith unexpectedly finds himself becoming invested in his students\u2019 lives, including Holly (MARISA TOMEI), a single mom looking to start her own new chapter.<\/p>\n

VIDEO \u2013 4.25\/5<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Rewrite<\/em><\/strong> takes pen to disc on Blu-ray presented with a 2.40 widescreen aspect ratio and in 1080p high-definition transfer. The picture offers sharp detail levels throughout, colors appear to be well balanced and skin tones seem natural. Black levels are solid and not appearing blown out though in some scenes I did notice some artifacting but it\u2019s nothing obvious or distracting.

AUDIO \u2013 4.0\/5<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The disc includes a nice 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track and considering this is mostly a dialogue-driven film, with some choice music\/score thrown in. Dialogue comes through clear enough and the music gives some depth to an otherwise so-so HD track.<\/p>\n

OVERALL \u2013 3.0\/5<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Overall, The Rewrite<\/em><\/strong> is a film that ironically enough, doesn\u2019t have the best screenplay but heavily relies on the charm and appeal of Hugh Grant and Marisa Tomei and also helping making this at least a rental is Grant re-teaming with Marc Lawrence (Two Weeks Notice<\/em>, Music and Lyrics<\/em>) and very well may be semi-autobiographical.<\/p>\n

The Blu-ray released by RLJ Entertainment is rather basic with a forgettable set of bonus material but solid video and audio transfers.<\/p>\n
