THE MOVIE<\/strong>

Woody Allen takes on the monolith of Russian literature \u2014 with a bit of Scandinavian cinema thrown in for good measure \u2014 with Love and Death<\/em><\/strong>, a deadpan costume epic set against the sweeping backdrop of the Napoleonic Wars. Boris (WOODY ALLEN) is a philosophical coward who becomes an inadvertent war hero and then a potential assassin thanks to the encouragement of his mad(cap) wife, Sonja (DIANE KEATON).<\/p>\n

VIDEO \u2013 3.5\/5<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Love and Death<\/em><\/strong> arrives on Blu-ray courtesy of Twilight Time and is the latest Woody Allen film to get the high-def treatment. The 1080p HD transfer, presented in the film\u2019s original 1.85 widescreen aspect ratio, might not come close to being demo worthy but still doesn\u2019t look horrible in the slightest. Colors tend to be a tad muted at times but detail, especially on the close-ups, are at least half decent but there are more than a few dust marks and heavy noise present throughout.

AUDIO \u2013 4.0\/5<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The DTS-HD Master Audio Mono track has its limits of course but considering it is a Woody Allen movie, you only need one channel. Dialogue levels tends to be crisp and clear and actually has a fair amount of depth for the war\/fight sequences but nothing outstanding, just effective for the genre (and filmmaker).<\/p>\n

OVERALL \u2013 3.0\/5<\/strong><\/h2>\n
