PLOT SUMMARY<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie<\/em><\/strong> centers on an eponymous 1930s-era Edinburgh schoolteacher: Miss Brodie (MAGGIE SMITH) would rather instruct her favorites in the passions and profundities of \u201cLife\u201d \u2014 a tendency that is beginning to get her in trouble with her school\u2019s stern headmistress (CELIA JOHNSON). Further difficulties are presented by Miss B\u2019s fascist politics and unconventional relationships with a pair of colleagues: the kindly Mr. Lowther (GORDON JACKSON) and the far more devilish Mr. Lloyd (ROBERT STEPHENS).<\/p>\n

The film is an adaptation of a play by Jay Presson Allen (who wrote the screenplay) and based on the novel by Muriel Spark; directed by Ronald Neame.<\/p>\n

While not an incredible looking film, considering its 45 year age, it\u2019s not a bad transfer with good coloring and decent detail levels throughout, though close-ups tend to be better than background which is a bit softer.<\/p>\n

The DTS-HD Master Audio Mono track isn\u2019t anything profound but gets the job done. Dialogue tends to sound crisp and clear and the music by Rod McKuen comes through with fine precision making the most out of the limited number of channels.<\/p>\n

For any fans of this film, it\u2019s well worth the purchase price for a solid upgrade for the video and audio transfers.<\/p>\n
