THE MOVIE<\/strong> \u2013 1.0\/5<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Plot Synopsis: <\/strong>Just when Zoe (KERRY KNUPPE) thinks she’s all alone in this world, an old woman passes on her bewitched gnome (VERNE TROYER), who is bound by magic to protect his master. Zoe quickly realizes that he isn’t your garden-variety gnome when he begins eliminating her enemies in extravagant displays of revenge, and must find a way to stop him before she and her friends become victims of his trickery.<\/p>\n

Quick Hit Review:<\/strong> I realize a movie titled Gnome Alone<\/em><\/strong> can\u2019t be taken seriously so going in I knew this wasn\u2019t going to be high art even by horror standards. But this is one of those movies that is only made to be mocked with nary a scary moment, ham acting by Troyer \u2013 though to be fair it did seem like at least he was having a good time \u2013 and poor performances by most of the supporting actors. For her part, Kerry Knuppe wasn\u2019t bad in the lead, although I hope she gets some better material to work with in the future.<\/p>\n

Gnome Alone<\/em><\/strong> creeps onto DVD presented with a 1.78 anamorphic widescreen aspect ratio and outside of some lines that are visible in most standard def releases, it is an OK transfer with decent colors and for the most part clean in its appearance.<\/p>\n

The Dolby Digital 5.1 track suffers from below average sound design where dialogue levels in certain scenes top out and are muddled while the music comes through well enough but nothing dynamic. There\u2019s really not much to this track and I suppose for this genre and budget, it\u2019s satisfactory.<\/p>\n

OVERALL \u2013 1.5\/5<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Overall, one knows what they\u2019re getting with a movie called Gnome Alone<\/em><\/strong>: a lot of bad puns, hamfest acting and so-so (at best) make-up effects. While I didn\u2019t care very much for the movie, it does deserve the \u201cMST3K\u201d treatment and the lead actress Kerry Knuppe wasn\u2019t bad considering the material she was given. The DVD released by Lionsgate has OK audio\/video transfers while the bonus material was pretty average but better than nothing, I guess.<\/p>\n
