PLOT SUMMARY<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Beyond comprehension, beyond imagination and beyond the deepest regions of this galaxy… life as we know it is about to end!<\/p>\n

In the farthest reaches of deep space, the medical vessel Nightingale keeps a lonely vigil for those in trouble. When a frantic cry for help pierces the void, the crew responds with a near-fatal, hyperspace dimension jump into the gravitational pull of a dying star. The disabled ship rescues a shuttlecraft containing a mysterious survivor and a strange alien artifact. Now the crew must unravel a chilling secret and escape the nearby imploding star before the rapidly forming supernova blasts them and the entire galaxy into oblivion!<\/p>\n

Deleted Scenes (14:40; HD)<\/span><\/strong> \u2013 There are a few scenes included, nothing outstanding but some decent performances…<\/p>\n

Alternate Ending (5:27; HD)<\/span><\/strong> is even cheesier and yet darker at the same time.<\/p>\n

Supernova<\/em><\/strong> jumps out of hyperspace onto Blu-ray presented in the film\u2019s original 2.40 widescreen aspect ratio and a 1080p high-definition transfer. The picture is a bit of a mix bag where on the one hand detail levels are pretty good with some decent sharpness however it is littered with dust marks throughout the entire film. Even so, colors are bold even a bit oversaturated though I\u2019m assuming it\u2019s by design than anything wrong with the transfer itself.

AUDIO \u2013 4.0\/5<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In spite of what the back cover says, the movie does include a 5.1 channel DTS-HD Master Audio track (along with a stereo track), and for the most part, is a good sounding track yet for the effects parts, it is underwhelming. Dialogue levels are crisp and clear, though, and whenever Sweetie\u2019s voice comes on, it does provide some depth.<\/p>\n

OVERALL \u2013 2.5\/5<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Overall, Supernova<\/em><\/strong> is somewhat of a controversial sci-fi thriller, some who stand by it while others trash it; for myself, there is some good to the film yet it never quite hits its stride and kind of loses its way by the final act. That said, it\u2019s worth a watch if only for curiosity\u2019s sake (plus Tunney looks mighty good). The Blu-ray released by Shout Factory vie way of their Scream Factory horror line, has solid video\/audio transfers while the bonus material is saved thanks to a new featurette.<\/p>\n
