Adapted from the picaresque novel by Barry Gifford, writer-director David Lynch\u2019s Wild at Heart<\/em><\/strong> is a scarifying road movie starring Nicolas Cage and Laura Dern as Sailor and Lula, a pair of star-crossed lovers pursued across the American landscape by all manner of horrors. Most are unleashed by Lula\u2019s unhinged mother (DIANE LADD, Dern\u2019s real-life mother), a woman scorned who will stop at nothing to destroy Sailor.<\/p>\n

This release comes with a 6-page booklet<\/strong> containing an essay and production stills.<\/p>\n

Love, Death, Elvis & Oz: The Making of Wild at Heart<\/em> (29:52)<\/strong><\/span> is an extensive featurette, made for the MGM DVD release, chronicling the origins of the film, some behind the scenes stories and features interviews with the cast and crew (Cage, Dern, Dafoe, Lynch and others).<\/p>\n

Original 1990 Making Of EPK (6:54)<\/strong><\/span> is just how it sounds, some fluff material made only to advertise the movie.<\/p>\n

Dell\u2019s Lunch Counter (21:05)<\/strong><\/span> is a collection of extended cast\/crew interviews.<\/p>\n

Specific Spontaneity: Focus on David Lynch (7:16)<\/strong><\/span> has cast and crew members talking about working with Lynch and what he brings to a production.<\/p>\n

Wild at Heart<\/em><\/strong> arrives on Blu-ray courtesy of Twilight Time presented with a 2.35 widescreen aspect ratio and with a 1080p high-definition transfer. The picture looks quite good, especially for a low budget film made 20+ years ago, with vibrant and crazy colors that screams David Lynch. Detail levels are excellent while darker scenes do show some heavy grain at times while others are a bit starker.<\/p>\n

AUDIO \u2013 5.0\/5<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track meanwhile is tremendous from the opening fiery sequence that blasts with depth utilizing even the LFE channel providing a nice thump to the soundtrack. The dialogue levels are also clear and action elements are spread evenly across each channel.<\/p>\n

There is an Isolated Score Track<\/strong><\/span> available along with a 2.0 DTS-HD Master Audio track.<\/p>\n

OVERALL \u2013 3.5\/5<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Overall, Wild at Heart<\/em><\/strong> is a, well, wild ride featuring bucko performances by Nicolas Cage and Willem Dafoe while it\u2019s fun seeing Laura Dern in a different role. The Blu-ray released by Twilight Time has an amazing audio track and a solid video transfer while the features, albeit basic, it\u2019s nice that they were transferred from the MGM DVD release.<\/p>\n
