\n<\/strong><\/h2>\nPlot Outline: Khartoum<\/i><\/b>, directed by Basil Dearden and written by Robert Ardrey, is an historical epic about the ill-fated expedition of British General Charles Gordon (CHARLTON HESTON) in late-19th-century Sudan, an attempt to halt the incursion of the fanatical Muslim leader, Muhammad Ahmad (LAURENCE OLIVIER), the self-styled Mahdi. This action-adventure yarn, full of thrilling battle sequences, stunning desert landscapes, and fascinating political intrigue led by British Prime Minister Gladstone (RALPH RICHARDSON).<\/p>\n

SPECIAL FEATURES \u2013 2.0\/5<\/strong><\/h2>\nAlong with a 6-page essay and picture booklet inside the case, the disc doesn\u2019t have many features. There\u2019s a fairly interesting, and honest, Audio Commentary<\/span><\/b> with film historians Lem Dobbs, Julie Kirgo and Nick Redman who not only praise the film but also point out mistakes and where it went wrong; an Isolated Score Track<\/span><\/b> to hear Frank Cordell\u2019s epic music; and the Original Theatrical Trailer (2:09)<\/span><\/b>.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
VIDEO \u2013 4.5\/5<\/strong><\/h2>\nTwilight Time once again proves to one of the best independent distributors presenting this epic 1966 war-drama in its original 2.76 aspect ratio and a brilliant looking 1080p high-definition picture. The detail levels in this is amazing with clarity and sharpness but still retaining the film-like quality with grain. Colors also look dazzling, bright and evenly dispersed.<\/p>\n

AUDIO \u2013 4.0\/5<\/strong><\/h2>\nThe movie includes a DTS-HD Master Audio Stereo (2.0) track which actually sounds really good throughout with excellent dialogue levels and the action sequences shine through quite nicely despite being spread across only 2 channels.<\/p>\n

OVERALL \u2013 3.5\/5<\/strong><\/h2>\nOverall, Twilight Time has another wonderful Blu-ray release on their hands with a fantastic restoration for both the video (especially amazing) and audio that any fan of Khartoum<\/i><\/b> will hopefully appreciate. The bonus materials are a bit limited though the film historian audio commentary track is well worth a listen whether or not you like the movie as it\u2019s absolutely fascinating.<\/p>\n
