<\/b>The unveiling of this film marks an important milestone: the first time NASA\u2019s 3D footage has been adapted for public viewing in a motion picture format. Viewers will experience Mars as if they are standing on the planet\u2019s surface and join the crew responsible for NASA\u2019s recent and historic mission to Mars. The breathtaking landscapes and mysterious history of one of Earth\u2019s closest neighbors in the universe are revealed through the now-famous twin robotic geologists, the Mars rovers Spirit and Opportunity.<\/p>\n

Quick Hit Review: <\/b>If you\u2019ve ever read any of my reviews about the universe (such as \u201cHow the Universe Works\u201d), and I know many of you HAVE read it… I have a fascination with anything concerning Earth and the elements outside of it and while both 3D Sun<\/i><\/b> and Mars 3D<\/i><\/b> are relatively brief, clocking in at a total of only 40-some-odd minutes, both specials have something to offer even if they\u2019ve been expanded upon in other shows and formats.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, no features have been included save for some trailers<\/span><\/b> for \u201cSpace Junk 3D\u201d, \u201cSun 3D\u201d, \u201cUltimate Wave Tahiti 3D\u201d, \u201cMummies \u2013 Secrets of the Pharaohs 3D\u201d, \u201cDinosaurs Alive 3D\u201d, \u201cDinosaurs \u2013 Giants of Patagonia 3D\u201d, \u201cLegends of Flight 3D\u201d, \u201cWild Ocean 3D\u201d and \u201cRescue 3D\u201d.<\/p>\n

VIDEO \u2013 4.5\/5<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The 3D elements for both aren\u2019t anything astounding but still fairly impressive giving a new glimpse at our solar system. Depth is OK though the colors still manage to be vibrant even and especially so with the 2D version (both 2D and 3D versions are available on this disc). The main highlight is when we get to the solar system where the 3D really shines as the earth-parts aren\u2019t quite as impressive.<\/p>\n

3D Sun<\/i><\/b> is presented in 1080p high-def while Mars 3D<\/i><\/b>, being the older of the two having filmed in 2004, is only 720p HD.

AUDIO \u2013 4.0\/5<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Both specials include a fairly depth-filled 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio tracks but being this is mostly dialogue-heavy, with sound effects inserted to add drama, there\u2019s not a whole lot here but these are fine and adequate lossless tracks.<\/p>\n

OVERALL \u2013 3.0\/5<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Overall, 3D Sun\/Mars 3D<\/i><\/b> is a nice addition to the ever-growing series of videos not only expanding our universe, but Earth\u2019s history as well.
