THE MOVIE<\/strong> \u2013 1.5\/5<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Plot Outline: <\/b>Charlotte (ALYSSA MILANO) is a shy, sexually inexperienced college freshman stalked by a handsome British vampire (MARTIN KEMP) who believes her to be the reincarnation of his long-dead lover. But with only three days to seduce the teen virgin, he\u2019ll tempt Charlotte with forbidden passions that include sensual dreams, a beautiful lesbian (CHARLOTTE LEWIS), torrid threesomes, scorching orgies and beyond.<\/p>\n

Quick Hit Review: <\/b>Not since Paul Verhoven\u2019s Showgirls<\/i>, which coincidentally also came out in 1995, has a movie didn\u2019t bother disguising what a movie was about: T&A and for Embrace of the Vampire<\/i><\/b>, seeing a then innocent Alyssa Milano desperate to shed her child star persona and do something that would, hopefully, take her into adulthood and there was no better way than to show her breasts (or boobies) and satisfy so many teenage boys.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s not much of a plot here and it\u2019s been described numerous times this is more or less an issue of \u201cPlayboy\u201d where one would skip the articles (plot) and go straight for the pictures (Milano, Lewis, etc.). However, even knowing that, this is just a chore and a bore to get through. It\u2019s plain and simple a bad movie with nothing redeemable including cardboard performances to go along with a thin story.<\/p>\n

Other than some previews<\/b> for I Spit on Your Grave<\/i><\/a> and Lovelace<\/i>, no features were included.<\/p>\n

VIDEO \u2013 1.75\/5<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Anchor Bay releases the 1995 Embrace of the Vampire<\/i><\/b> onto Blu-ray with a weak transfer that looks incredibly sloppy with drab colors, a picture that seems over processed and maybe artificially sharpening, and even so, detail levels just isn\u2019t there. I can\u2019t say I\u2019m surprised considering this was probably a low budget movie that no doubt didn\u2019t look very good when it was released VHS (and I suspect they used that as a source with some clean-up).<\/p>\n

AUDIO \u2013 2.75\/5<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Dolby TrueHD 5.1 track does fare a bit better with mostly clear dialogue, or moaning, coming from the center channel while atmospheric noises and some side action (like footsteps) are relegated to the rear speakers. I don\u2019t consider it anything great but it is a serviceable lossless track.<\/p>\n

OVERALL \u2013 1.0\/5<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Overall, Embrace of the Vampire<\/i><\/b> (1995) is simply a bad movie made only for a child star in Alyssa Milano trying to strip (figuratively and literally) that persona. The story is lacking, and the performances are bland and the movie as a whole is downright boring leading to something with nothing to offer (even Ms. Milano\u2019s breasts aren\u2019t worth the sludge you have to wade through). The Blu-ray released by Anchor Bay has no features, the video is below average and the audio is merely average.<\/p>\n
