Quick Hit Review: <\/b>I\u2019m not the biggest horror fan preferring the occasional Halloween<\/i> or Friday the 13th<\/sup><\/i> movie \u2014 the early ones in each franchise anyway \u2014 so The ABCs of Death<\/i><\/b> wasn\u2019t exactly my cup of tea (or boiling, scorching water to the face). But put together, it is interesting to see the styles and tone each filmmaker placed on the subject that while it doesn\u2019t quite flow well together as a feature film, it works almost in a (more) twisted version of \u201cTales from the Crypt\u201d mixed with \u201cThe Twilight Zone\u201d. As one would imagine, the acting isn\u2019t entirely impressive but still respectable given the material.<\/p>\n

SPECIAL FEATURES \u2013 4.0\/5<\/strong><\/h2>\n

There are featurettes for nearly each short. Several have \u201cMaking ofs\u201d which are mostly on-set interviews and behind-the-scenes footage.<\/p>\n

Audio Commentary<\/span><\/b> \u2013 This track features a variety of participants depending on the short, mostly the writers and\/or directors.<\/p>\n

A is for Apocalypse: Oil Burns Visual Effects (1:10)<\/span><\/b> is a short feature showing the breakdown in the effects in the short.<\/p>\n

Given each segment is shot differently, though presumably mostly with digital cameras, the video presentation isn\u2019t too shabby. The 1080p high-definition transfer shows off some decent detail levels and although there are some shots with artifacting and\/or pixilation, it\u2019s not overly distracting. While it won\u2019t knock your socks off in the visual department, it\u2019s a serviceable transfer.<\/p>\n

AUDIO \u2013 4.5\/5<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Where the disc shines is with the 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track. From the opening scene where a woman walks in and unceremoniously slashes a man\u2019s throat, the blood curdling scream (from the killer) will scare the heck out of anyone in the vicinity. It\u2019s a strong lossless track throughout even in the \u201cquieter\u201d segments.<\/p>\n
