Elliot (BRENDAN FRASER) is a hapless, love-starved computer technician who falls prey to a sinfully sexy Satan (ELIZABETH HURLEY) when he agrees to sell his soul in exchange for seven wishes. But the sly Princess of Darkness has more than a few tricks up her sleeve. And before he knows it, Elliot’s life becomes a hell on Earth.

Quick Hit Review: Bedazzled is a fun movie that serves as a showcase for Brendan Fraser and his comedic timing in combination with Elizabeth Hurlery’s sexpot role making for a fantastic, Devilish, and above all, interesting villain. The movie is hardly perfect as some of the jokes do go on too long and Fraser, for as funny as he tends to be, can get a bit annoying especially early on. Still, there’s more than enough here to give Bedazzled a chance if you haven’t already and for those who have seen it, give it another shot.

SPECIAL FEATURES – 0/5

None of the features from the “Special Edition” DVD (2 Commentaries, 2 Featurettes, Still Gallery) have been ported over. In fact, there isn’t even a menu so the film starts after the FBI Warning and Anchor Bay logo.

VIDEO – 4.25/5

Bedazzled debuts on Blu-ray with a 2.35 widescreen aspect ratio and a sparkling 1080p high-definition transfer which looks pretty damn good considering this is a budget title. The picture here is crisp, free of artifacts, dust marks and scratches. The colors are bright popping off the screen especially Hurley’s red, skin-tight suit. Although there are a couple scenes that are on the softer side, for the most part this transfer looks sharp.

AUDIO – 4.0/5

The disc includes a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 track which comes to life especially during some of the music cues such as the “Wild Thing” melody when Elliot first meets Satan at the bar. The bass in that scene really shows off providing dynamic range. The dialogue levels are also well done although, and it might be my system, the sync between the mouth and words seemed to be slightly off, enough that it was noticeable. Taking that aside, this is a solid lossless track that is certainly an improvement over the DVD version.

OVERALL – 2.0/5

Overall, Bedazzled is one, wait for it, Devil of a good time… Actually, it’s a showcase for both Brendan Fraser’s physical comedy with “SNL”-bits strewn together with a fun, if not thin, premise. Also a highlight is Elizabeth Hurley who has never been sexier putting on outfits to, well, bedazzle, any viewers who see the Blu-ray or DVD covers. The Blu-ray itself might be missing the features from the DVD but the audio/video transfers are pretty darn good and if the price is right, might be worth picking up.

Published: 05/24/2013

Bedazzled is one, wait for it, Devil of a good time… Actually, it’s a showcase for both Brendan Fraser’s physical comedy with “SNL”-bits strewn together with a fun, if not thin, premise.

[3,970
2061,2062,2063
post-5600","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-blurayreviews","category-quick-hit-reviews","tag-bedazzled","tag-brendan-fraser","tag-elizabeth-hurley
["GET
