But when Jenny turns out to be a needy, neurotic mess, Matt wants to call it quits, Jenny is crushed by the news and will stop at nothing to exact sweet revenge. Entering into the mix are Matt’s co-workers Vaughn (RAINN WILSON) and Hannah (ANNA FARIS) and Jenny’s arch nemesis Professor Bedlam (EDDIE IZZARD) who set on destroying the superhero.

Quick Hit Review: As a comedy, My Super Ex-Girlfriend never quite hits it out of the park but as a premise, it is unique and a fun spoof on superhero movies. Uma Thurman is a delight in the lead role, Luke Wilson is… well… like one of the Wilson brothers with a strange charm, Anna Faris is a lot of fun in her part especially towards the end and Rainn Wilson plays the typical quirky best friend. While the film itself doesn’t exactly work on every level, I still found it to be fun and a decent time-waster. However, it’s also not a film I’d revisit all too often, but as a one-off, it’s not bad.

SPECIAL FEATURES – 0/5

None of the features from the DVD (deleted scenes, music video) have been ported over. In fact, there isn’t even a menu as the movie will begin to play after the AB logo and FBI warning.

VIDEO – 4.25/5

My Super Ex-Girlfriend flies in on Blu-ray presented in its original 2.40 widescreen aspect ratio and an impressive looking 1080p high-definition transfer. Given the movie is only 7 years old, it’s not surprising that the picture looks as good as it does, but it’s hardly ever a given. Here, the picture if finely detailed, if not at times on a bit on the lighter side. I don’t have the DVD to compare, but I’m certain this is a good upgrade.

AUDIO – 3.75/5

The Dolby TrueHD 5.1 meanwhile is nice but on front-loaded with some of the audio, especially when it comes to the music, score and the more action-oriented scenes. Even so, dialogue levels sound decent, albeit heavy, and those action sequences provide robustness to the lossless track and, like the picture, is probably a notable improvement over the standard Dolby 5.1 track on the DVD.

OVERALL – 2.25/5

Overall, My Super Ex-Girlfriend never quite fulfills the potential of the storyline but the movie still is fun propelled by entertaining performances by Uma Thurman, Anna Faris and, to a certain extent, Luke Wilson. The Blu-ray offers solid audio and video transfers but leaves out the features from the DVD release. Since the SRP is $17.99 (at the time of this writing), it is a bit pricey for what you are getting (and the DVD version is uber cheap), but if you can buy it in the $5 range, then it might be worth the upgrade.

Published: 05/24/2013

My Super Ex-Girlfriend never quite fulfills the potential of the storyline but the movie still is fun propelled by entertaining performances by Uma Thurman, Anna Faris and, to a certain extent, Luke Wilson.

[3,970
244,1294,2056,2057,211
post-5590","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-blurayreviews","category-quick-hit-reviews","tag-anna-faris","tag-luke-wilson","tag-my-super-ex-girlfriend","tag-rainn-wilson","tag-uma-thurman
["GET
