We all know why this movie was made and that was to show some nudity, bikini-clad chicks, thinly written characters and terrible CGI that only SyFy could be proud of. On the bright side, the young Danielle Panabaker (Friday the 13th, The Crazies, The Ward) isn’t too bad in this and gives it her best despite a poor script by Patrick Melton & Marcus Dunstan, the pair responsible for Saw 4-6, and Joel Soisson, the man behind numerous direct-to-video horror sequels including Mimic 2, The Prophecy 3-5 and the awful Pulse 2 and 3.

Directed by John Gulager, Piranha 3DD is the type of film you would see on SyFy complete with poor CGI but with some nudity as a way to placate the adolescent male audience. I’m all for these types of movies but at least put some effort into it. In any case, I can’t think even those who liked Piranha won’t find this to be a worthy entry into the potential (though likely) franchise. On the plus side, it is an incredibly short movie clocking in at around 70-minutes sans end credits.

SPECIAL FEATURES – 2.0/5

Audio Commentary – This track features Director John Gulager, Co-Writer Producer Joel Siosson and Co-Writer Marcus Dunstan.
