Synopsis: <\/strong>The fight for justice never ends as Captain Olivia Benson and her squad returns for the landmark 25th season of the groundbreaking series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit<\/em><\/strong>, the longest-running live-action primetime series in American television history. Created by Emmy\u00ae Award-winning producer Dick Wolf, the trailblazing series examines the lives of the Special Victims Unit of the New York City Police Department. Capt. Olivia Benson (MARISKA HARGITAY) leads the powerhouse unit, which includes Benson’s second-in-command Sgt. Olafin “Fin” Tutuola (ICE-T), Detective Joe Velasco (OCTAVIO PISANO) and Assistant District Attorney Dominick “Sonny” Carisi (PETER SCANAVINO).<\/p>\n

Quick Hit Review: Law & Order: Special Victims Unit<\/em><\/strong> is the very rare series to last 20+ seasons and while the quality of what I\u2019ve seen over those years has been up and down and certainly seen many changes in its cast, it\u2019s still a highly engaging show with interesting storylines. Having not kept up with the show for the past few years I was a bit surprised to see this ensemble cast has dwindled down to Mariska Hargatay, Ice T and Octavio Pisano on the \u201cOrder\u201d side and just Peter Scanavino on the \u201cLaw\u201d side of things with some guest stars filling the gap, including Kelli Giddish who was a main cast member in seasons 13-24. Perhaps it\u2019s a cost cutting measure by NBC\/Universal as I imagine at this juncture, Margitay\u2019s pay is up there (as of 2018, $500,000+ per episode).<\/p>\n

In any case, this season is mostly watchable entertainment even with the dark storylines and uncomfortable topics, this season also has a through-line involving a teenage girl who was kidnapped and trafficked across state lines, always on the back of Benson\u2019s mind as she and her team tackle other cases of the week, circling back every so often until it\u2019s conclusion later in the season.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Law & Order: SVU<\/em><\/strong> is, at least in the USA, the first in the franchise to get a Blu-ray release. Each episode comes with a 1080p high-definition transfer and presented in the originally televised 1.78 widescreen aspect ratio. As someone who is not an avid watcher of this show as it airs, I can\u2019t make a direct comparison however I assume its pretty close. Despite the very dark crimes the show covers, there are some good colors that do shine through and detail is relatively sharp and well defined throughout.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Every episode is equipped with a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track that is more than adequate for a show that is probably 85% dialogue, 10% generic crime-drama score and 5% action. Dialogue does come through with good clarity and there is some modest depth making use of the front and rear channels.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
